Olievenhoutbosch Rotaract

In early 2014, a group of community service-minded young people in the township of Olievenhoutbosch under the leadership of Sive Makeleni formed a Rotaract Club. They received their official charter a year later, on 23 May 2014. Their first project was to clean up and beautify a small neighborhood area. Then on a larger scale, they began a feeding scheme to provide between 20 and 80 primary school students a meal after school three times each week.

They are now working on a plan to provide secondary school students a life skills and career guidance program in the form of a twice-yearly weekend retreat at Kwalata Game Lodge in the Dinokeng Game Reserve near Hammarskraal. Fundraisers for this creative project are currently in the planning stage.

The core group of 9 active members meets from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the Olievenhoutbosch Community Centre on Fridays as members are available. For further information, call Sive Makeleni at 078 071 5965.
