Rotary Centurion Food Aid

We are all aware that many people who live from paycheque to paycheque or day-to-day income are now without work over and above the existing 30% unemployment rate in our country. Thousands of people in our broader community are now starving. This is leading to a whole host of other social, safety and security issues.

The Rotary Club of Centurion has embarked on a feeding scheme that will assist these desperate people in our local community and we are appealing to you for help.

We are able to provide a meal for a family of 6 for R10, that includes rice, dried vegetables and lentils.

You could assist in a few ways:

  • You can assist in procuring items and packing bags, using the easy to follow instructions – a great family project!
Download the instructions and the label template.
  • Support the project financially through a donation:

Tshwaranang Day Care Centre

Rotary Centurion has procured a donation of a used shipping container which we intend to place at the Tshwaranang Day Care Centre, at the Mooiplaas settlement. Mooiplaas is situated behind Sunderland Ridge in Centurion, Gauteng.

The intention is to use the container as a little kitchen and store room for the 40+ underprivileged children who are taken care of daily at the centre.

Our plan is to relocate the donated container and then do some modifications, such as installing some windows and a door into the container for starters, as well as flooring and other fittings.

Following a site visit last Saturday to see where we were going to place the container, we have requested that the community start clearing the site. We have obtained a quote to move the container and we are now urgently seeking a sponsor for this – we need to transport the container from Johannesburg to the site in Centurion by mid-August.

We are also looking for sponsors and/or assistance with the modifications and installations.

Have a look at our Facebook page for some photos: www.facebook.com/rotarycenturion

Please contact us if you are able to assist in any way.

Blankets distributed

Following on from the June blanket drive, the Rotary Club of Centurion distributed 417 blankets, valued at R20850.00, to needy beneficiaries in the greater Centurion and Tshwane area.

Beneficiaries included The Turning Point, Mooiplaas community, L&J community, Centurion Hospice, and Moeg Gesukkel settlement.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who supported this initiative!

Inbound Youth Exchange students

Our inbound (visiting) short term exchange students are presently in South Africa and staying with their host families.

We are looking forward to welcoming them (and their hosts) to our meeting on 1 August.

Blanket Drive Project update

Our blanket drive project on the weekend of 1/2 June was a great success. We raised R20000.00, which will enable us to distribute 400 blankets to needy beneficiaries this winter.

We are presently finalising our distribution lists and awaiting the imminent delivery of the blankets for distribution.

Our thanks to Centurion Mall for hosting us on the weekend, and to the public (including a few corporate sponsors) for generously supporting this project. Well done to our members for your efforts and for making this a true team effort.

Club Assembly

Our annual club assembly is scheduled for tomorrow.

This is an annual event where club members get together to review the past year and strategise and plan ahead for the new year. The new Rotary year commences on 1 July. We are looking forward to a fun and productive session, and to building the fellowship within the club.

Please contact us if you are interested in community service and would like to volunteer your time, effort or sponsorship on any of our projects or if you are interested in finding out more about our Club and our activities.
